Following the bus accident in Mumbai's Kurla region, the bus driver Sanjay More has been arrested by police and sent into custody till December 21. The accident took place on Monday night and resulted in the deaths of at least seven people.

The driver, who reportedly lost control of the BEST bus, has been booked for 'culpable homicide not amounting to murder' under the provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Following the arrest of the driver, Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) have set up a committee to investigate the bus accident in Kurla. The committee will be chaired by Chief Manager (Transport) Ramesh Madavi.

BEST has also announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakhs for the families of the deceased. The civic-run transport agency has also stated that it will bear the treatment charges of the injured people.

The death toll from the accident has increased to seven. Along with this, a total of 42 people have been injured due to the accident.

The driver of the BEST bus - Sanjay More - has been arrested and ordered into police custody till December 21.

About The Incident

Around 9:30 PM on Monday night, a BEST Bus in Mumbai's Kurla region lost control and rammed into vehicles and pedestrians.

As per eyewitnesses, the bus rammed through pedestrians and vehicles and then entered a residential society before coming to a halt.

The bus was a 12-metre long electric vehicle manufactured by Hyderabad-based Olectra Greentech and it had been taken by BEST on a wet lease. The bus was headed to Andheri from Kurla railway station when the accident occurred.dc188
